The overall process removes 90% of the total volume
of MSW normally deposited in a landfill. The process
meets the public mandate to recycle. The process has
no air emissions. The separation, fermentation and
distillation processes are well known and widely
used. AGRESTI owns an exclusive license to
use the GeneSyst technology within the states of
Illinois Indiana and Kentucky.
AGRESTI will neither collect nor transport municipal
solid waste or specific feed stock. Instead,
AGRESTI
will operate a central MSW processing facility, or
in the case of industrial application, specific
cellulosic processing facility to produce materials
to be sold. However approximately 10% of the
material received will not be able to be processed
into useful products in the initial stages of
facility development. This 10% will be deposited in
a permitted landfill. Processing waste into salable
products eliminates the long-term costs and
liabilities of maintaining a sanitary landfill. The
land available for sanitary landfill is becoming
scarcer and landfill construction and operating
costs are going up. Diverting MSW to an
AGRESTI facility will allow the remaining
landfill capacity to be stretched
significantly compared to current landfill
practices with minimal additions of
degradable organic materials.
The processing of unsorted waste from paper and the
food industry as well as other organic feed stock
providers further diverts waste material from either
the landfill process or its costly exportation to
countries for incineration. Harmful methane and CO2
emissions are also avoided as the diverted MSW
stream will be sorted, processed and converted in a
fully enclosed facility thereby reducing the carbon
footprint as well as significantly reducing harmful
greenhouse gases.
